Blog Journal #7
Happy Halloween everyone,
Welcome back to my blog, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the lovely cool weather. This week we will be discussing Twitter, my experiences designing a website for my classroom, and assistive and adaptive technologies.
So far using Twitter for class I have found it interesting being able to share my opinions with others as well as stay updated with their different experiences in the class. I have enjoyed being able to keep up with the conversation outside of the classroom which has kept me up to date with the class. While I only have it once a week this definitely keeps me thinking about it and working on it throughout the week. From using Twitter I have learned that it doesn't have to be used for just social media purposes to share with family and friends. It can also be used to have discussion outside of the classroom and keep students talking about these ideas outside of the classroom. Furthermore, I have found that the benefits of using this technology is that I am able to hear what my classmates think and have a conversation with them actively even when I am not in class. Plus, I get to have other people's perspectives and opinions which really helps me develop my own opinions. My only issue I have had with using Twitter is that it is a technology that I did not use even before this class, this has made it hard for me to remember to go on and tweet. While this is a problem that is a personal one for me, there definitely is going to be technologies out there that students will not like to use and this could be something holding them back.
I have really enjoyed getting to create this web page, it was so fun designing it and getting to create something of my own. I learned a lot from getting to create my web page, one of these being how to embed a calendar into a site and create a blog within a site. At first, I was having trouble figuring out how to put the calendar into the site and navigating it overall was difficult for me. However, after working with the technology for awhile and looking up videos on how to put it together it finally worked out for me. I am personally very proud of myself and the new skills I have acquired through doing this. One thing I really like about it is that I designed it really fun to fit the environment of second grade class which led to me being able to have more fun with the activities as well. Something I did not like is that it was hard to create announcements for my students, I ended up having to create a blog where I placed my announcements. A great idea for Wix would be to create a template or design that would make it more teacher/ education friendly. This way it would be designed for teachers and a classroom making it easier for teachers to work with. Next time, I think it could be improved by working with the design a little bit more. The design I currently used was very professional which isn't as necessary since the audience would be second grade level, however, this was the options posed to be my Wix. Therefore, in the future, I might choose a different website creator. In my future career this will be beneficial because I can use these design principles when designing publications and journals for magazines. These are great overall just to be used in a classroom but for design in general.

Assitive and adaptive technologies are used to support learners with all types of disabilities. They make it so that there are ways of organizing topics so that students can choose which tasks to do and are aware of the tasks they are responsible for. Placing them in this manner makes it much easier for students to keep up with the class as well as helping them to stay organized. Furthermore, these technologies allow for students to learn in different ways such a student who may need a different type of keyboard in order to type better or a student who is deaf or has troubles reading they may have text to speech programs adapted for these tasks. I personally, have not had anyone close to me using this technology but I have found it interesting that there is so many way for students to adapt to their learning environments with these. Using them in my classroom, I imagine it would be hard to accommodate all of these at once but I would do my best to make this possible for the students so that they would not feel left out. Also, I would try to provide many different ways to learn a new lesson instead of just learning from a text or just learning from me verbalizing the lesson. This way students could pick what they want to use.
Until next week,
