ILP #2 "Design"- Infographic

Image
Welcome back! Recently, I have began using different types of software in order to create educational contact that is more design heavy. This makes the information more pleasing to view as well as possibly encouraging students to want to learn. I have created an infographic (shown below) about the most important parts of the brain, including the four lobes, the cerebellum, pituitary gland, and cerebellum. Each of these different parts plays a role in motor and sensory processing as well as the senses and our emotions. Creating this infographic, the key idea was to make it pleasing to the eye and not text heavy. Infographics stick to the most important and basic information and that is what I have done here. I also wanted there to be a picture because there is often a lot of clipart featured within infographics. This type of infographic would be most beneficial in a science class in junior high or high school or even in a psychology class. I hope this inspires some of you to get...

Blog Journal #10

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving! This week I will be discussing the uses of Microsoft Excel and surveys as a teacher as well as topics I found interesting throughout the semester from my classmates' blogs and the technology skills I would like to learn next. Recently, I have began using surveys and excel and have found that they are very beneficial as a teacher for calculating grades and class averages to see how students are doing in the class. Applying these to a second grade math class, surveys can be used in the classroom in the beginning of the year to learn a little bit more about your students. In my classes in junior high and elementary school, it was common for teachers to ask icebreaker questions and have us write them on post-it notes for them so they could begin to get to know us. Surveys could be an easier more convenient way for educators to obtain this information. Another usage could be to ask students how they are doing, how they learn ...

Hello everyone, Now that we are past Halloween, I know we are all very excited to begin moving into the holidays. On another note, to those in Tallahassee with me, I am deeply saddened by the shooting at the Hot Yoga Studio here. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this. Hopefully we can all begin to take steps towards actions that can prevent situations such as this one. This week we will be talking about my experience in the previous weeks with Diigo, as well as using PowerPoint, and some ideas about teacher professional development. After working with Diigo over the course of the past couple weeks, I have found that it is very useful not only in the ability to share it with others but also for being able to look back at my annotations. I found it so convenient how I could comment on other people's bookmarks and see their comments as well. Another great benefit is that it is very user friendly. It took me about an hour to get used to using it and...

Happy Halloween everyone, Welcome back to my blog, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the lovely cool weather. This week we will be discussing Twitter, my experiences designing a website for my classroom, and assistive and adaptive technologies. So far using Twitter for class I have found it interesting being able to share my opinions with others as well as stay updated with their different experiences in the class. I have enjoyed being able to keep up with the conversation outside of the classroom which has kept me up to date with the class. While I only have it once a week this definitely keeps me thinking about it and working on it throughout the week. From using Twitter I have learned that it doesn't have to be used for just social media purposes to share with family and friends. It can also be used to have discussion outside of the classroom and keep students talking about these ideas outside of the classroom. Furthermore, I have found that the benefits of using thi...

ILP #1- "Participation"

Hi all! Thank you for checking out the second part of my blog today! I will be discussing the COE Technology Showcase and Technology Sandbox I attended recently at FSU. At the technology showcase there was a lot of great interactive ideas that had been developed for use in the classroom. Based on attending the Technology Sandbox and this showcase I am detecting the pattern that people are wanting to make it possible for children to become more involved and be a part of hands-on activities. For example, the tech showcase and sandbox included computers that children could touch and use their hands to move diagrams around and zoom in and out, ect. If they are not hands-on, then the activities are able to show 3D models that are great for visual learners. Examples of these were the Lightboard, the augmented and virtual reality, 3D printers, and 3Doodlers (pens that allow students to draw in 3D). I will be discussing the ones that I found to be the most interesting that I would use in my...

Hello everyone! I hope you all weathered the storm safely, my prayers are with the families who lost their homes or loved ones. I hope to see you all recover soon from the damages of the storm. This week I am discussing home pages for schools, the ways that I plan to use technology professionally, and my visit to the Technology Sandbox at FSU. While looking into the home pages for schools and the information they provide publicly (without having to log into an account), I found the website for The Wesley School. It was only recently founded and is a school that extends kindergarten through eighth grade. When reviewing their page I paid special attention to the first, second, and third grade pages. Each of them included photos of the teachers along with their names; there was also information about what the students are learning and important dates coming up for the parents to keep in mind. The largest difference I noticed as the grade increased was that there was more specificity o...

Hello and welcome back to Bookmark It ! For all of my viewers currently being affected or who will be affected by Hurricane Michael, stay safe and prepare for the storm as best as you can, I am keeping you in my prayers. In this weeks blog, I will be discussing my experiences so far in the course with my blog, Diigo, as well as a Web 2.0 tool that I would use in my own classroom. My experience so far with Diigo has been that as a teacher it would be very beneficial to use this tool to find sites as well as other people with similar bookmarks to mine. The site is great for providing connections between educators to share ideas, websites, and tools. I like that when you bookmark pages you can highlight and circle certain parts to emphasize what that person liked about the site. This also allows for me to get a snapshot of what the site will be about and if it will benefit me. Furthermore, the ability to comment and see other peoples opinions of the site makes it easier for me to see...
